Making Connections Carlow is a part-time Local Training Initiative (LTI) funded by KCETB. These LTIs are flexible, community-based training programmes designed to support individuals who have become disconnected from mainstream education and training. LTIs provide tailored learning supports to help participants achieve qualifications on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) and build the skills needed to advance to further training and education.

Making Connections Carlow enables participants to earn a QQI Level 3 Major Award in Employability Skills. To achieve this award, learners must complete the following core modules:

  • Communications
  • Computer Literacy
  • Career Preparation
  • Application of Numbers

After completing these, participants can select an additional three modules from a range of fifteen options, such as Safety Awareness, Nutrition and Healthy Eating, Word Processing, or Social Media.

Who it’s for:

The programme offers support to individuals who face social exclusion, are recovering from substance misuse, experiencing homelessness, or transitioning from a probationary background. These individuals require assistance in advancing in areas of education and training. The program is delivered through one-to-one sessions, spread over a number of hours per week.

How to Apply:

Participants are referred to the programme through various agencies, including but not limited to:

  • Ardu Clinic (HSE)
  • DePaul Homeless Services
  • Probation Services
  • Carlow Youthreach

The program aligns with the integrated care pathways in the National Drugs Rehabilitation Framework, making it a suitable option for those in recovery.

Why Participate?

The program provides learners with structure, personalised one-to-one support, and a positive learning environment. It helps develop new skills, improve literacy and numeracy, and boost self-confidence. Participants benefit from a renewed sense of achievement and are better prepared for further education and career progression.
