Barrow Bus is a free summer service for 2026 linking towns and villages along the River Barrow for the first time, while connecting with national bus and train routes to attract visitors to the Carlow and Kilkenny region.
The free service will run eight daily trips along the River Barrow this summer aiming to make it possible for people from all over the country and overseas to access the amenities of Ireland’s second longest river by train and bus. The Barrow Bus route will run from Bagenalstown (Muine Bheag) train station in Co. Carlow through the scenic East Kilkenny villages of Paulstown, Goresbridge, Skeoughvosteen and Graiguenamanagh. Some services will extend further to St. Mullins in County Carlow before making the return journey.
The service offers excellent opportunities for day trips for families, friends, walkers and visitors, while also creating potential benefits for local businesses along the route. It is designed to support both tourism and local communities by improving access to services without reliance on a private car.
The timetable has been developed to connect with existing bus and train services, particularly at Paulstown and Bagenalstown / Muine Bheag, supporting better integration with the wider public transport network.
