What to expect

As support is provided by volunteers, it can take time to arrange a visit and/or a phone call. We’ll be in touch as soon as possible and we appreciate your patience.

Please be aware that SVP is not an emergency service.

• Where possible, we will ring you beforehand to arrange a visit. This phone call may be from a private number.
• Two of our volunteers will visit you – volunteers are not permitted to visit you on their own.
• SVP volunteers will respect your privacy and must follow our guidelines about confidentiality.
• Our service is non-judgemental and you can expect to be treated with courtesy and respect.
• As every situation is different, SVP volunteers will provide advice and/or assistance based on your specific needs. It may take more than one visit to provide the help you need.

Our support includes:

• Offering friendship and a listening ear
• Providing practical help with financial problems
• Providing information about other organisations that also may be able to help you.
• Help with explaining your case to other organisations.
• Assistance with education.
